Pseudophoenix vinifera

common names: cherry palm, wine palm, *buccanneer
The largest of the genus which only attains about 35 feet in cultivation but probably double that in habitat. When young it has a light grayish to white trunk with dark growth rings which disappear as it gets older til nearly invisible. It’s known for its urn shaped trunk which later develops a huge bulge at about its midpoint leaving a look reminiscent of the appearance of a python that just swallowed a small deer. Extremely beautiful when young but in advanced age (50 years +) somewhat strange looking. Still a great accent piece when placed in full sun with very very well drained soil
