C. barbadensis is one of the tallest species of this genus, hence the common name “alta”. The trunks max out at about 6 inches in diameter, the leaves are about 3 feet wide, deep shiny green on top and on young plants a smattering of silver on the underside .Its  not particular about soil but it must be well drained and certainly not as cold hardy as C. argentata.
