Purple crown shaft, Mt. lewis, purple king palm are among the common names for this palm which grows naturally in northeastern Queensland, Aus. In cultivation the plants can get to about 35 feet. It however is the slowest growing of the genus and while it seems to like cooler conditions does not tolerate frost. It needs to be planted in shade or filtered light.
